News: Liquid 9 Mixes Up Promotional Potion for Kansas City Wizards

(Kansas City, Missouri--April 17, 2008) Post-production boutique Liquid 9 is busy creating a complete promo campaign for Kansas City’s Major League Soccer (MLS) team the Kansas City Wizards, announced L9 owner Chris O’Connor.

Liquid 9 has already completed post-production including graphic design, music and editing on the first of a series of :30 television spots to air on Time Warner Cable’s regional sports channels. The spot can also be seen during Wizards pre-game festivities at CAB stadium. In concert with the overall campaign, L9 composer Patrick Meagher recently created two original Wizards anthems, including the Wizards’ new “Battle Anthem,” played before and during games at CAB stadium. A series of viral videos will also be created over the course of the Wizards’ 2008 season.

“The first broadcast spot we created combined dynamic Wizards game footage with some striking graphics,” said O’Connor. “The next spots will feature a more high concept branding look and feel, but we’ll also add in one or two more packed with exciting action footage throughout the MLS season.”

The Liquid 9 creative team on the broadcast spot included graphic designer, Cody Smith; editor Curtis Schmidt; and Meagher.

“The client wanted the anthems to possess the hard hitting, heavy metal energy of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” and AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” combined with the epic, warrior feel of the soundtrack for ‘300,’ said Meagher. “I had just recorded a local high school marching band and thought the sounds of the big marching drumbeats were a perfect starting point.” String, horn and percussion tracks were dubbed over the drumbeats. It was while watching Wizards game footage that Meagher was inspired to incorporate the world famous “Ole” soccer chant as the final magic ingredient.

The viral videos will play off a variety of humorous concepts featuring Wizard’s players and will be seen on the Wizard’s MLS websites and will appear on social networks such as YouTube, Facebook and MySpace. Daniela Maria Kelley is editing the viral videos.
