News: Panasonic Announces Large-Scale Purchase of P2 HD Equipment by Gray Television for Newsgathering

A Total of 21 Gray Television Stations to be Equipped with P2 HD Systems

(SECAUCUS, New Jersey--April 17, 2008) Panasonic Broadcast announced today that Gray Television, Inc. (Atlanta, GA) has made a substantial investment in P2 HD equipment to address the newsgathering requirements of 21 of its member stations.

The purchases include AG-HPX500 and AG-HVX200 P2 HD camcorders, AJ-HPM110 P2 Mobile and AG-HPG10 P2 Gear recorders, and AJ-PCD20 P2 card drives.

Gray Television currently operates three dozen television stations serving 30 markets. Each of the stations is affiliated with CBS, NBC, ABC or FOX.

John Baisley, President, Panasonic Broadcast, said, “We are delighted at this substantial additional commitment by Gray Television to our P2 HD solid-state equipment. Gray joins a growing list of television stations enjoying the ‘beauty of P2 HD’ with its workflow improvements and overall operating efficiencies.”

“We began shooting news with P2 HD camcorders at several of our stations over the past year, and have experienced the image quality enhancement and improvements in workflow,” said Robert S. The Gray stations that have or are slated to equip their ENG crews with P2 HD gear include: KAKE 10 ABC (Wichita, KS), KKCO 11 NBC (Grand Junction, CO), KKTV 11 CBS (Colorado Springs, CO), KOLN 10 CBS (Lincoln, NE), WBKO 13 ABC (Bowling Green, KY), WCAV 19 CBS (Charlottesville, VA), WCTV 6 CBS (Tallahassee, FL), WEAU 13 NBC (Eau Claire, WI), WHSV 3 ABC (Harrisonburg, VA), WIFR 23 CBS (Rockford, IL), WILX 10 NBC (East Lansing, MI), WJHG 7 NBC (Panama City, FL), WMTV 15 NBC (Madison, WI), WOWT 6 NBC (Omaha, NE), WRDW 12 CBS (North Augusta, SC), WSAW 7 CBS (Wausau, WI), WSAZ 3 NBC (Huntington, WV), WTAP 15 NBC (Parkersburg, WV), WTOK 11 ABC (Meridian, MS), WTVY 4 CBS (Dothan, AL) and WYMT 57 CBS (Hazard, KY).

About P2 HD
P2 HD provides the reliability of solid-state production, the immediate connectivity to existing IT infrastructures; the speed, ease of use and portability of P2 cards; and the interoperability with leading NLE systems. The core products within the P2 HD product line offer solid-state high definition recording without the mechanical wear and environmental limitations of tape, hard disk, and optical disc based systems. P2 HD insures the highest reliability, especially in challenging conditions of extreme temperature range, shock, and vibration. The AG-HPX500 teams the full production-quality of 2/3” 3-CCDs, DVCPRO HD, 4:2:2 sampling and independent frame encoding with the versatility of interchangeable lenses and the creativity of variable frame rates. The HPX500 records in 32 high definition and standard definition formats, including 1080i and 720p in production-proven, 100 Mbps DVCPRO HD, as well as DVCPRO50, DVCPRO and DV.

The ultra-versatile AG-HVX200 records in 1080i and 720p in production-proven 100 Mbps DVCPRO HD quality, with the ability to capture images in 21 record modes. The camera records video on a P2 card as IT-friendly MXF files in 1080/60i, 30p and 24p; in 720/60p, 30p and 24p; in 50Mbps DVCPRO50 and in 25Mbps DVCPRO or DV. The HVX200 can capture fast or slow action in 720p at various frame rates; the shooting frame rate in 720p native mode can be set for any of 11 steps between 12fps and 60fps including 24fps and 30fps.
