Rugged Design, Enhanced Functionality, Superb Sound Quality

(Las Vegas NAB--April 15, 2008) Sony is introducing five new system packages in its UWP series of UHF synthesized wireless microphones. The new systems are designed for stable audio reception and interference-free multi-channel operation in news-gathering, AV presentations, entertainment, live event, and corporate applications.

The new line-up includes the UWP-V1, UWP-V2, UWP-V6, UWP-X7, and UWP-X8 models.

“These units increase the levels of stability, mobility, robustness, and operational convenience for the UWP series,” said Paul Foschino, senior manager for professional audio in Sony Electronics’ Broadcast and Production Systems Division. “Videographers can get up and running right out of the box, as each package includes both a transmitter and a receiver.”

All components of the new systems – bodypack transmitter, handheld microphone, plug-on transmitter, portable receiver and tuner unit – are housed in compact, light weight and extremely robust metal chassis, allowing them to withstand the often harsh operational environments encountered during field use.

The UWP-V1, UWP-V2, and UWP-V6 are designed for use with Sony professional camcorders, specifically the new XDCAM EX™ and HDV™ models for ENG and EFP applications. The UWP-X7 and UWP-X8 are ideal for PA applications, and include a transmitter and a tuner module that can be installed into the Sony SRP-X500P, SRP-X700P AV presentation mixer or MB-X6 tuner base unit.

Transmitter options include the UTX-B2 bodypack, the UTX-H2 handheld microphone, and the UTX-P1 plug-on transmitter. Receivers include the URX-P2 portable tuner and the URX-M2 tuner module.

The Sony UWP Series UHF synthesized wireless microphone packages are available in channel blocks 30/32 (566-590 MHz) or 42/44 (638-662 MHz). Each is planned to be available in June at the following suggested list prices:
  • UWP-V1 Omni Lavalier Mic w/Bodypack Transmitter and Portable Receiver Package: $699

  • UWP-V2 Handheld Mic/Transmitter and Portable Receiver Package: $699

  • UWP-V6 Omni Lavalier Mic w/ Bodypack TX, Plug-on TX, and Portable Receiver Package: $949

  • UWP-X7 Uni Lavalier Mic w/Bodypack TX and Modular Receiver Package: $699

  • UWP-X8 Handheld Mic/TX and Modular Receiver Package: $699
