Industry-leading Companies to Provide P2 HD Compatible Products and Production Tools

(Las Vegas NAB--April 15, 2008) Autodesk and Hitachi Kokusai Electric are the newest professional video product suppliers to announce their support for Panasonic’s solid-state P2 HD technology. Both companies indicated their intention to support P2 HD and unveiled P2 HD-compatible implementations of their products here at NAB 2008.

With the addition of Autodesk and Hitachi, a total of 29 industry-leading companies have publicly announced their support including production, storage, and peripheral systems compatible with Panasonic’s P2 HD Technology.

Autodesk, Inc., the world leader in 2D and 3D design software for manufacturing, construction, media and entertainment markets, has announced that it will support the DVCPRO HD codec in high-end editing, finishing, compositing, and design software suites, including Autodesk® Smoke® 2009, Autodesk Inferno® 2009, Autodesk Flame® 2009, and Autodesk Flint® 2009. DVCPRO HD is the primary codec used in all P2 HD products and enjoys widespread support in media production applications throughout the world. Autodesk product releases incorporating P2 HD support will begin in April.

Hitachi Kokusai Electric, which develops, manufactures, and distributes broadcast acquisition systems, will develop a P2 HD dockable recorder compatible with its own fully-digital, multi-standard HD Camera, model SK-HD1000. This P2 solid-state recorder will support both DVCPRO HD and 10-bit AVC-Intra codecs, and is targeted for release in 2009. A working sample will be exhibited in the Hitachi (Booth No.C5018).

Additional updates from P2 HD partners made at NAB include:
  • FUJIFILM, a major media supplier for the broadcasting industry, will start to sell P2-compatible solid-state memory cards (16GB and 32GB models) in the U.S. and European markets within this year. These P2 cards are exhibited in the FUJIFILM and Panasonic booth at this NAB.

  • Harmonic's Rhozet™ has announced that starting this month its Carbon CoderTM will provide real–time transcoding of HD content to AVC-Intra as a standard feature.

  • FOR-A has announced that its proprietary media management system, called MediaConciergeTM, will support both the DVCPRO HD and AVC-Intra codecs. This support will enable the system to ingest and manage all P2 HD content. MediaConcierge will be demonstrated at NAB and is expected to be released later this year.

  • P2 is enjoying rapid growth and support worldwide. Panasonic announced at NAB 2008 that more than 80,000 P2/P2 HD units have been sold since its introduction just a few years ago. With more than 840 television networks and stations worldwide, P2 has become the dominant tapeless format for the broadcast industry. With a large and growing number of partner companies supporting P2 HD, users enjoy a broad range of compatible product options for their media production and post production requirements.

  • P2 HD all solid-state products offer high definition recording without the mechanical wear and environmental limitations of tape, hard disk, and optical disc based systems. P2 HD ensures the highest reliability, especially in the challenging conditions of extreme temperature range, shock, and vibration. P2 HD products provide a significant reduction in maintenance costs, longer useful product life, and immediate access to recorded video and metadata, with no need to digitize, ingest or create proxy video files. P2 HD provides the reliability of solid-state production; the immediate connectivity to existing IT infrastructures; the speed, ease of use and portability of P2 cards; and interoperability with leading NLE systems.
