News: Fully Automated DVD Production Workflow Rimage Previews DiscFlow™ for Mac OS X at NAB
by Cow News Droid on Apr 15, 2008 at 4:02:08 pm

(Las Vegas NAB--April 15, 2008) Rimage Corporation (Nasdaq:RIMG), the industry-leading provider of on-demand digital CD/DVD/Blu-ray publishing systems, announced today it will preview its newest disc publishing application – Rimage DiscFlow for Mac OS X – at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) 2008 conference.

Designed from scratch specifically for Mac-based content creation environments, Rimage DiscFlow enables Apple OS X users to burn, print and distribute audio, video and data discs automatically by using a Rimage Producer or Professional Series digital publishing system as part of an integrated production workflow. DiscFlow is a native Mac client application that works seamlessly with Apple Final Cut Pro, Avid, Adobe and many other popular digital production titles.

“For years, digital content producers have been asking us for the kind of product innovation that would simplify the disc production workflow for prerelease discs, test discs, screeners and marketing discs,” said Tom Sherman, vice president of product development for Rimage. “With Rimage DiscFlow, we’ve met that request by creating our first digital publishing application designed exclusively for Mac users, fully inspired by the Apple OS X interface. The result is a disc publishing solution that eliminates time-consuming manual burning and costly outsourcing while enabling users to keep their focus on video production and not on managing the disc creation process.”

Made for Mac

Rimage DiscFlow embraces the core visual language of a Mac environment and is instantly familiar to legions of content creation professionals, allowing them to burn and print DVDs, CDs and Blu-ray Discs™ on demand with little user effort. DiscFlow’s innovative user interface leverages the Mac operating system’s “cover flow” model, giving users easy visual access to all disc-publishing projects.

A Rimage digital publishing system completely automates disc production, making it fast and efficient to create one or many discs, even in multiple formats. Automatic production and an innovative “watch folder” enable users to drop files in a pre-defined action folder for unattended disc burning and printing.

Mitch Coopet, co-founder of Code42, creator of the popular cross-platform CrashPlan archiving application uses DiscFlow on their three Rimage Professional systems, said “DiscFlow has an instant visual appeal and quickly became a favorite in our company. In addition, we believe the innovative automatic Watch Folder concept will be a great time saver for any video professional using DiscFlow.”

Powerful Rimage Features

Rimage digital publishing systems offer all-in-one disc production – disc burning and permanent direct-to-disc printing are combined as one simple operation. Rimage’s full-featured hardware and software package can link to many users over a network – just like a network printer – enabling seamless integration with Mac and Windows clients simultaneously.

With Rimage DiscFlow, digital content producers can:
  • Create one or many DVD test discs, dailies, pre-screeners or promos in house, manually or automatically, without tying up editors or producers with time-consuming disc burning tasks.
  • Protect digital content with Rimage Video Protect, a powerful application that inhibits ripping and disc copying software. Content producers can protect revenue and distribution plans without changing workflow processes or compromising deadlines.
  • Eliminate the expense and hassle of outsourcing disc production, while adding valuable services and creating new revenue streams by offering impressive photorealistic discs to customers.

Rimage DiscFlow is the latest addition to the Producer Software Suite that is included with Rimage Professional and Producer disc publishing systems. DiscFlow is comparable to QuickDisc™, the Rimage Windows® client. The DiscFlow client can be installed on an unlimited number of Macintosh computers on the network. In addition, the browser-based WebRSM is provided to give Macintosh users instant job and system monitoring information while also providing consumable and queue status.

“We have invested heavily in understanding what digital media producers need in terms of disc production and workflow,” Sherman said. “With such tight deadlines, it makes perfect sense for facilities to bring disc-making in house to save time and money. Rimage DiscFlow will handle disc production with automated efficiency, freeing up valuable staff time to focus on deadline-driven tasks instead of burning and printing discs.”

Rimage will preview the new DiscFlow software solution in booth #SL8728 at NAB 2008. To learn more about Rimage disc publishing solutions for digital content producers, visit http://www.rimage.com/video.
