News: Digital Vision Introduces Software-Based Standards Converter: DVO Convert

Enables quick previews, high quality masters for multiple deliverables

(Stockholm, Sweden--April 15, 2008) Digital Vision, the premier provider of picture enhancement systems for film and television post-production, is introducing a brand new software-based, motion-compensated standards converter at NAB 2008.

Available as a software option to its software mastering and finishing systems, the new tool, called DVO Convert, will enable post facilities to deliver high quality masters in any format. The first version is planned for availability in Q3 2008.

DVO Convert delivers high performance processing that allows standards conversion to become part of the software mastering process rather than an operation performed on ingest or delivery, saving time and reducing infrastructure cost. The standards converter will be able to convert any broadcast standard to any other including generation of 23.98PsF from 50i and 59.94i as well as auto detection and removal of 3:2. There will be a separate de-interlacer and upconverter available as part of the module. All processing is motion compensated so the media created will be pristine, virtually artifact free, and ready for digital distribution.

Digital Vision also announced that DV Convert will be able to take advantage its own grid-based processing, enabling users to automatically batch-process file-based sequences, and is actively soliciting feedback on this implementation at NAB.

DVO Convert is part of the Digital Vision Optics (DVO) software suite, based on its Emmy Award-winning image enhancement technology and twenty years of research and development.

Simon Cuff, Digital Vision President and COO, said, “With so many broadcasters launching VOD services to supplement existing channels, the pressure is on both broadcasters and post-production facilities to create and be able to preview high quality masters for multiple deliverables quickly. Digital Vision is the only company able to offer format conversion, noise reduction, encoder preprocessing and automated restoration in a single software environment that can benefit both creative finishing and volume processing of media.”
