(Santa Monica, California--March 11, 2008) Mixer Mitch Dorf of POP Sound was called on by ad agency Saatchi & Saatchi LA to complete the final mix for Toyota Corolla's new commercial "Badgers." The :30 spot made its debut during Super Bowl 2008, and is currently airing nationwide.
"Badgers" begins with a Toyota Corolla parked in the driveway of an elegant estate. In an effort to demonstrate the quietness of the Corolla's cabin, the estate staff forces an unsuspecting twenty-something into the parked car, where he discovers a mother badger and her babies sleeping in the passenger seat. The VO explains that if the badgers awaken, they will "gnaw his face off." The man silently begs the staff to stop, as he sees a curmudgeonly butler loading a cannon. The butler fires the cannon several times, as the young man in the car recoils in fear. When he notices the badgers are calm and unaffected by the blasts, he releases an unburdened sigh of relief. The inside of a Corolla is so quiet that repeated cannon fire doesn't wake the badgers. Then, much to his dismay, his cell phone goes off. Frantically, he tries to answer it to silence its ring, but it's too late. The papa badger in the back seat has awoken, and he is none too happy.
