(Venice, California--February 14, 2008) Recently formed broadcast design and commercial visual effects studio Farmer Brown has moved into new studio space here and expanded its creative and technical staff to tackle a wide range of new design and visual effects projects, according to co-founders Tim Brown and Juan Granja. The studio has also added an HD Final Cut Pro editing station as well as upgraded its rendering capabilities.
“Our new location is a great spot for boutique work,” said Brown. “Our first months have yielded a number of great projects and the New Year has brought us several exciting projects as well.”
Recent Farmer Brown projects include: design packages for ESPN’s “Madden Nation” (ESPN), “Pros vs. Joes” (Spike TV), “Funniest Commercials” (TBS), “Super Bowl’s Greatest Commercials” (CBS) and “Disney Movie Surfers” package (Disney Channel). The studio also completed an HD corporate video for HP and in-store HD commercials for Best Buy and Directv.
Brown, who began as a print designer for magazines, transitioned into computer graphics design in the late 1990s at Action Video in Hollywood, did a brief stint at Sony Image Works and helped launch The Game Show Network as a freelancer before joining REZN8 as Art Director. There, during a six-year stretch, he rose to Creative Director. While at REZN8, Brown created packages for CBS’s primetime image campaign, morning and evening newscasts and “Up to the Minute News,” as well as the network’s daytime soap operas and Winter Olympics. In addition, he created packages for FOX’s primetime image campaign, FOX’s Super Bowl and Fox Sports Net along with packages for the Paralympics for We Media and the Golf Channel.
Brown went on to join Blur Studios in 2000 as a partner for several years in the broadcast design division. At Blur, he created packages for E! News Live, Nickelodeon’s “Kids Choice Awards,” FOX’s “Teen Choice Awards,” “The Billboard Awards” among others. In 2003, he was appointed Creative Director of Hornet, Inc. where he created packages for CBS Sports’ “Road to the Final Four March Madness,” promos for the Food Network and various other show and sports franchise packages. Brown then formed Sweet Design Studio, then Farmer Brown in 2006 with partner Juan Granja.
Granja began his creative career working in fashion design in Madrid. He became the product manager for several labels before moving to London to do theatrical set design. He relocated to Los Angeles where he continued in the theater world. Along the way, he picked up computer design and landed a job at TSI where he explored 3D animation software and tools while working on game development. He went on to join Blur Studios in the late ‘90s where, during a five- year stint, he worked on such projects as Shania Twain’s “I’m Gonna Getcha Good” music video, the Disney Christmas feature “Mickey’s Twice Upon A Christmas,” I.D.s for Sci Fi Channel and WB, Mattel Toy spots, a Sponge Bob stereo Imax ride film and a Warner Bros. Looney Toons ride film. Granja then moved on to form his own creative shop, Pixel Farm.
“Juan’s background in 3D animation and visual effects complements my background in broadcast design perfectly,” said Brown. “Together with our talented and skilled team, we will continue to grow as a top-notch service company, while developing our own unique content.”
