News: RaveHD

(Oakdale, California -- August 7, 2007) SpectSoft LLC., a leading provider of uncompressed video solutions on the Linux® platform, today announced RaveHD is now shipping supporting extended feature support for LUTs, Burn-in, Split Screen and Keying.

SpectSofts RaveHD, which has been in use by many major studios worldwide since 2001 has just added another twist to it's tool box and usability. With feature requests coming directly from the studios who use the product, additions have been made that take RaveHD to another level of usability.

"This added functionality allows studios to use RaveHD in new ways, states Ramona Howard, President of SpectSoft. “The feature set has become so much more than what it was just a year ago with even larger features ready to roll in later this month. It is fun to watch the product grow and people will be very interested in where the product will go this next year. Lots on the horizon".

RaveHD has supported LUTs for some time but with the introduction of a new router, a hardware accelerated processor was added to the mix allowing for the LUT to be routed in many more ways than before. With the addition of the other features being used in the processor you can now route a LUT to an image that is being downconverted, Pillarboxed and displayed in a split screen (with the LUT on one side) and a key on top of it, all in real time. The hard part is explaining all of the combinations in the mix as RaveHD supports the full "video" gamut along with up, down and cross convert with all of them.

Other feature improvements include Burn-in and extended Colorspace support. Burn-in now offers outputting other ancillary data in the DPX header, including a text generator for information not contained in the header and Colorspace support includes both Full scale and SMPTE scale for SD and HD video. RaveHD has always supported both modes but now this can be easily found in the settings interface.

Utilizing commodity hardware, RaveHD systems prices start at $26,960 and support from 3TB to 24TB of local storage in a SATA array configuration and offers one of the highest quality video solutions on the market today. RaveHD supports uncompressed SD-SMPTE 259M, HD-SMPTE 292M, Dual Link HD(4:4:4)- SMPTE 372M and 2K HSDL for both capture and playback in a single system as well as hardware accelerated upconverting, downconverting and cross-converting. All RaveHD systems feature integrated RS-422 hardware that allows for both slave and master control, LTC support and unlimited scalability with dual 10/100/1000 gigabit Ethernet. Features like frame oriented, standard file system storage and centralized database asset tracking, RP188 (embedded timecode), Varicam flagging, Conform, and a programmable cadence engine are all standard with every system. RaveHD is natively frame-based but does offer some built-in tools for those working with other formats.

April of this year added a huge feature to RaveHD, Stereoscopic support. The RaveHD Xenon systems can support up to 2 streams of 4:4:4 in a single system and is designed to operate as two fully separate VDRs, sync'd together. Working with customers specific functionality was added to help with eye strain when working with devices that sync together in addition to other features that make working with double the images much easier. 3D is the future and RaveHD is at the forefront for uncompressed frame-based capture and playback in this area.

"Working with studios to insure that every feature within RaveHD is rock solid is what has made the product successful", comments Jason Howard, Lead Programmer for SpectSoft. "stability is something we will not jeopardize and these guys are the ones who really put that to the test.", adds Howard.

RaveHD is in use by studios worldwide and has played an integral role in the making of films such as Starship Troopers 2, Sin City, Ice Age 2 and many others. RaveHD is designed to compliment the workflow not compete with and is the only product of it's kind to supply it's entire source code to it's clients for integration.
