(NEW YORK--BUSINESS WIRE--Aug. 21, 2006) RawFlow, a leading provider of live peer-to-peer (P2P) streaming technology, today announced the release of its QuickStart streaming tool for small and medium sized broadcasters. QuickStart enables anyone who is already streaming live audio or video content online to set up a P2P streaming network in three simple steps, helping to cut bandwidth costs by up to 90 percent.
With the significant growth in consumer broadband usage, increasing numbers of individuals and broadcasters are engaging in live streaming. However, in many instances this expansion has led to high bandwidth costs and decreased media quality. RawFlow solves this problem through its advanced P2P software which allows broadcasters to create a network that utilizes unused viewer 'upload' bandwidth capacity. Companies such as Denmark Broadcasting Corporation, Mississippi State Radio, WLRN and NexusLive are already taking advantage of RawFlow's technology, resulting in reduced bandwidth costs for audio content by 90 percent and by as much as 50 percent for live video content.
QuickStart has been designed as a fast and efficient way for smaller live streaming broadcasters to take advantage of RawFlow's Peer-to-Peer software. By registering a QuickStart account, broadcasters can easily submit URLs for existing streams and include a brief description of the content being broadcast. QuickStart supports multiple formats including Windows, RealPlayer, AAC+ and many other popular media players. When a viewer or listener selects a stream, they are given the option to download a small plug-in which enables them to connect and form a safe and secure network with other users.
"The power of peer-to-peer streaming should not just be reserved for the big players," said Mikkel Dissing, CEO of RawFlow. "With QuickStart, RawFlow is making P2P live streaming a reality for broadcasters of all sizes, allowing them to increase the scalability and quality of their live streams, while at the same time reducing bandwidth costs."
Broadcasters can take advantage of QuickStart for free as part of a 30-day trial. From there, they can then purchase software licenses and add unlimited streams. License pricing is based according to the amount of data transfer. Additionally, QuickStart includes a built-in real-time statistical tool which measures how much bandwidth is being saved.
