Ok, So I work as a Student Assistant for the government and we've recently been on the lookout for a good stock music source. Up until now, We've always had a subscription to Omni music and done everything through them. My boss assigned me the job of looking for alternatives because some of the old-timers here are very resistant to change. I absolutely hate our current music library because everything is done with CD's and trying to find the right song is like searching for a needle in a haystack. Unless I come across something good by sheer luck, my only option is turning to someone else who knows the library by heart. I'm also very unimpressed with the style and variety of music... Everything sounds the same. Our subscription with them just ran out and now we have to send them back all their CD's. It's time for an upgrade and I want to make sure we do this right.
I suggested to my Boss that we go with an online alternative like
http://www.stockmusic.net They offer a Hard drive for $3500 dollars that comes with all the music on their site and one of their sound effects libraries. Their customer service told me that as time goes on and they release new stuff, I can purchase upgrades if we feel like we need more music. They also told me that once we purchase their songs, our licensing on them never runs out and we can use them as many times as we desire. I really like the sound of that and I'm trying to get everyone on the same page. Unfortunately, the older and "more experienced" people I work with are really bustin my balls on this one. I feel like the only reason they're against this idea is because they didn't come up with it. I also know that they have friends who work with Omni and I'm pretty sure that has something to do with it too. They called stock music behind my back and didn't get an answer and now they're trying to tell my boss they have bad customer service. It makes me mad, because they're government employees who hate trying new things and like to do as little work as possible. I, on the other hand, am trying to achieve a higher level of quality. I want to be able to show people the projects I've worked on and be proud of them. I'm trying to build a decent portfolio here so I can find a nice job in the future and the only thing my co-workers have to worry about is retiring.
Fortunately, we have a new boss who is younger and on my side. It was only a couple of weeks ago that we were able to stop them from shooting footage on standard definition tapes. We've had HVX-200's for a couple years and we JUST NOW switched over to p2. To put things in perspective... When I first started working here, they were still using footage off of 3 quarter inches and burning their DVD's through a home DVD recorder. I STILL haven't been able to teach them how to author a DVD because no body wants to learn.
So I need a little help here, Has anybody had any experience with stock music.net in the past? Are they a pretty good website? Are there any alternatives I should know about? It'd be nice if I could attack this deal with a little more confidence in my decision.
