This won't answer your question, because I'm on a PC. But I recently upgraded my system from CS3 on XP to CS4 on 64-bit Vista, and upped my RAM to 8 GB. On CS3, Premiere would choke on large HD projects...

I don't know about the registration thing, but your laptop should work for editing HDV. I would recommend obtaining an ExpressCard e-SATA adaptor, and storing all your project files (including captured video) on an e-SATA capable desktop drive. This is...
