DV50 is a nice 8 bit 422 codec but IMX50 was a bit nicer ... at least according to the eye (and the scopes) of my engineering buddys...

Just select all the clips, then choose Modify > Make Multiclip Sequnece ...
Leave all settings at default and press OK. That'll create a Bin of multiclips and a Sequence
Open the new sequence and you should find all those source...

It's certainly possible Jason, I knocked up something similar for a company I worked for a few years ago ... it was an applescript that read in (optionally) an FCP XML v1 file and a text file (in RTF format)...

As has already been posted, there is still support when then camera is attached via USB ... its been reported that Sony's XDCAM Transfer software is working just fine in Snow Leopard with this configuration and similarly that...

You are correct. It's a dual function box but you can't perform both of those functions simultaneously.
You see, the hardware is already in use by the one function so it can't perform the other at the same time....

the footage was ingested from the DV deck as Uncompressed 8 bit PAL without first telling FCP that the incoming footage should be treated as Anamorphic 16:9
