Hobbies and Interests: I love television. As much time as I spend watching it, reading about it, talking about it, tweaking my system, it's definitely a hobby. At least.
It's not as cool to like TV as it is to like movies, but most of the time, I like TV better.
It's also not cool to like network TV, but I do. I'll go a little further and say that we're in the midst of television's true golden age.
Some current favorites: House, Life, Bones, Reaper, Dirty Sexy Money, Journeyman, Pushing Daisies, Lost.....
Love HD.
Love watching the Red Sox. Out of a 162 game season, Nora and I watch virtually all of 140 of 'em, chunks of another dozen. Highlights of the rest, of course, plus pre-game and (often) post-game coverage too.
All in HD, of course.
Favorite Books / Authors: Mark Twain
Favorite Bands / Musicians: The Beatles, Sufjan Stevens, Pinback, Joni Mitchell, Head Like A Kite, Brittle Stars, Miracle Fortress, Dream Syndicate, Yo La Tengo, The Incredible Moses Leroy, A Sunny Day in Glasgow, The Trolleyvox, Bob Dylan (the later the better), Simple Kid, Manual, The Notwist, Lali Puna, Tied & Tickled Trio, Alias, Songs of Green Pheasant, !!!, Couch, Malory, John Doe, The Sheila Divine, Boy in Static, Mission of Burma
Favorite Movies: Stranger Than Fiction (the current fave), Hard Day's Night, You Me and Everyone We Know, Grapes of Wrath, Fog of War, The Lord of the Rings (extended editions...actually, the extras are even better than the movies), Gross Pointe Blank, The Fifth Element, Night at the Opera, Jaws, What's Up Doc?
Favorite TV Shows: House, Life, Bones, Reaper, Dirty Sexy Money, Lost, The Closer, Battlestar Gallactica, Chuck, Pushing Daisies
Comments and Things Worth Noting: Here's a quick tour through my YouTube videos:
1) Joseph Kosinski directed this amazing spot for the Xbox 360 game, World of Warcraft. The music is Gary Jules's cover of Mad World (originally Tears for Fears) that was used in the movie Donnie Darko. I get chills every time I watch this.
2) Don't like McDonald's, don't eat chicken, but this spot is a work of mad genius.
3) EDS, Herding Cats. One of my favorite commercials of all time.
4) Six of my favorite minutes from Fog of War, the Oscar-winning doc by Erroll Morris. Robert MacNamara, speaking straight into the cameara. Amazing.
5 - 8) Local promos from Fox Sports in LA. This, kids, is what rotoscoping looks like.
9) A Tribe Called Quest, "I Left My Wallet in El Segundo." Killer riff sampled from The Chambers Brothers' "Funky." Truly lightweight, but fun.
10) Ten minutes from "You, Me and Everyone We Know," a fantastic movie written, directed by and starring Miranda July. It'll take me longer to describe it than it will for you to watch the clip.
11) Chris Bliss juggling to the finale of Abbey Road. Turn it up loud.
Re: Hammered by Tim Wilson on Oct 24, 2009 at 5:24:41 am in the Business & Marketing Forum I'm going to make some specific observations to speak to the general observation: the demographics are changing faster than you're watching. There's no hand biting here. Money talks.
It's not just greed talking, either. Audiences grow when they get what...

Starting in the mail room by Tim Wilson on Sep 17, 2009 at 10:13:30 pm in the Business & Marketing Forum Y'know, I don't actually have a problem with this at all. It's one of the many ways how this industry and many others have been built. You want to become an agent? Start in the mailroom. Want to become a...
