other ways to make the workflow faster:
work from the viewer,
define your clip with in/outs,
Apple U to "Make Subclip"
name the new subclip.
this skips the "make independent" step.
batch export as non self contained clips.

DH Subtitle is a text generator plugin.
it's "thing" is it can be bottom justified,
and also has options to add a transparent box behind the text.

yeah, the function exists,
but i think you have to assign it a key command.
open the Keyboard layout manager (option H)
and type match frame into the search field.
you'll find all the variations of match frame in there.

select the entire timeline,,
summon the slip tool (s), or simply grab it from the tool bar,
and type in + or -7.
(that's 7, then a period, which FCP will read as 7.00)

basically you open the nested sequence from the timeline into the viewer window.
make a subclip.
now the nested sequence has been trimmed to the section used.

i locate the speed modified shots,
matchframe them into the viewer (where they should have no speed effect)
and then cut them back into the timeline on a set of new, and...
