I've always been around computers. I use to log onto the mainframe at the Illinois Institute of Technology when I was 12; my Dad was a Assistant System Admin for one of the departments and a CAD teacher for a short time. In '88 my parents wanted to open a desktop publishing & design small business. They bought a couple of Macs, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Of course, they couldn't keep me off the computers. I graduated from The University of Illinois at Chicago in '91 with a fine art degree, where I studied Film, Video, & Photography. They also had a cool course in programming for graphics. The class created a very primitive drawing program.
My first job creating graphics came by accident. I was working my way through college at a rush hour traffic reporting company in Chicago. They provided a video feed to the NBC station. They bought a Newtek Video Toaster (ugh) and used me to create the maps and graphics used. After college I got a job working in as an editor, graphic artist, and computer administrator for a small production company. I mainly did paint and 3D animations. When that production company folded, I went to work at a broadcast video dealer. I demonstrated and provided training to customers on NLE's, After effects, and linear systems.
With the birth of my daughter in 2000, I decided to be a stay-at-home dad, freelance artist and creative cow lurker.
