$ support for (student) filmmakers

Hello,
I am producing a documentary as a part of a masters program in social science. The film is half done, and I need funds to finish it.
Does anyone have any ideas about grants to finish works in progress -- that are available to students? I've come across many grant applications that prohibit students. The funds would primarily be used to substitute the salary I would forfit by taking the summer months to complete the project instead of working.
Many thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Perhaps the single best source for grant information is The Foundation Center. You can obtain information from their site of an upcoming proposal writing seminar in Boston on March 5.
Also, the main library (on Boylston) has a great deal of information on available grants. (I went to school in Boston.)
Lastly, another strategy to consider is to raise the grant money on behalf of the school. This may be a good option since BC already qualifies for IRS 501(c)(3) tax exempt status which a majority of grant programs require.
Feel free to contact me directly for another possible option. (martin@tveffects.com)

Dear Susan:
Even though you reside in Boston, you will probably receive worthwhile information from the Foundation Center at (212) 620-4230 (http://fdncenter.org/newyork), as Martin mentioned, and the New York Foundation for the Arts at 212-366-6900 (www.nyfa.org).

the film arts foundation puts out a month magazine. they list many foundations/organizations that are all over the US that have grant $$ etc ... film arts is located on SF ..perhaps there is similar group in your area ?
