Hi all,

We have ProMax DA-Max with Kona Setup on Apple Final Cut Pro. The Problem is that whenever we are connecting the BetaSP to the DA-Max thru YUV and seeing the output on Broadcast monitor the images are completely white patched. The Chroma level is very high. The S-Video and Composite is O.K.

We have replaced the DA Max and still the problem persists. Even the setup of the machines has been changed and to no effect.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Ruplu

Replu,

Are your YRB component inputs on the monitor terminated?

I am not sure if the DA Max component input has loop thru outputs which if it is not auto terminating would also need to be terminated?

You could use a composite waveform monitor and look at the "Y" output top see if the image image is unterminated at some point in the chain. To do so take the output of the DAMAX go to the Waveform first then loop out to the monitor. If any item in the chain is unterminated you will see it on the waveform display.

An unterminated display will look like the input has been set to expanded mode.
Sync and video level will go off the scope. White levels will exceed 120 IRE and sync will not line up at -40IRE.

Good luck,

Tony Salgado

ps: Also check to see that you have not double terminated the signal which would result in the image looking dark.

IT sounds like you are unterminated. You must describe how you are monitoring the signal. The Sony PVM series monitors have auto termination. You MUST plug into the left connector for Y, R-Y and B-Y, not the right connector. If you have two cables on the Y R-Y and B-Y (looping thru the monitor), you MUST have the other end of the cable terminated.

A common error is to take the output of the DA Max, loop into the Sony PVM series monitor, and then loop out of the component outputs into the Component input of the UVW 1800. There is a little black switch on the back of the UVW 1800. If it is not in the select position for the BNC component inputs, the signal will be UNTERMINATED and you will see a "white patch" picture as you describe.

Assume nothing !

I went and saw this effect. These guys are in my city.

There's not termination issue here. I've posted details of my observations just today.
