 | 3rd Party Plug-Ins??
by Jay Blanchard on Jul 22, 2004 at 2:13:12 pm |
My boss recently purchased an 844/x for me to match his workstation. As an After Effects guy, I love XBlur and the real-time compositing functions, but I am disappointed by the lack of plug-ins that I've been able to find compatible with the 844/x. I use the Trapcode plug-ins extensively for my work, as well as DigiEffects, Zaxwerks, etc. Is there any way to utilize these plug-ins with the 844? Are there similar plug-ins available that will work? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Disappointed in the lack of plug-ins? Did you see the list that come pre-installed with 844x? There are over 120 plug-ins! They took all of the plug-ins from the "ICE" product line. There are some great plug-ins!! I do understand your disappointment about Trapcode, BUT I'm pretty sure that Shine works with 844x. I don't think Digieffects work through, those plug-ins are so old!! Most plug-ins that have their own interface ex: Invigorator or Digieffect CineLook do not work. But in Media 100 defense, thoose plug-ins DON'T work with ANY other application i.e. Combustion, Red, etc. There is actually a movement called Open FX, the Foundry (Tinderbox plug-ins, Keylight, etc) supports it. They are trying to create one standard for writing plug-in codes, this way it wouldn't matter if your using AE, Combustion, or 844x, if it accepts Open FX, it works. So...to make a long story short, the problem lies in plug-in code uniformity, rather than 844 compatibility.
Not to defend Media 100, because there are a lot of plug-ins that I use that will never be brought over to 844 (DigitalAnarchy for starters), but the computer that comes with 844 is a screaming machine, so I don't mind having to work in AE when it's going so fast. But, I think you'd be surprise how many plug-ins do work with 844.
Good luck,

We're using Digieffects Package; Cinelook, Film motion, Filmdamage, grain reducer etc. and works fine
also the Digital Film Tools the whole CS -range works fine, very useful for drama and commercials.

If you would like to replicate Shine without purchasing it....try FE Lightburst (included)....not too bad. Client couldn't tell the difference.
