Hey folks,

Not a full config setup information yet, but here's what I got so far from Andrew Baum regarding CineWave System Config for OS X.

"Hello Walter:

I do not expect the minimum CPU configurations for CinéWave to change for OS X. However, there is a strong likelihood that we will increase the minimum memory configuration to 512 MB of RAM. This is based on the fact that virtual memory is always going in Mac OS X. The Adaptec cards will not be qualified. As far as display cards, we are in the process of testing these, but all of the new display cards shipping with Apple CPU's appear to work correctly. You can post this info on the Cow.

Sincerely,
Andrew"

Walter,

Question...can we use the ATI Radeon9000 as a dual display card, attaching two Apple Flat Panel Display (2nd one via a DVI-ADC converter) ?

...or do we still need to get a separate PCI ATI card...which has been known to have problems in OSX.

Well, I would think so, but as Andrew notes, the cards that are shipping with the new G4's appear to be working so far. Any other cards are speculation right now.

From what I've heard, if you run a second display card, you have to bring your RAM down to 512mb in OS 10.2.1 or you'll have all kinds of problems. Maybe the 10.2.2 release fixed that issue.

Personally, those dual cards are so sweet that I think getting a secondary card is a waste of money. We'll just have to wait for Pinnacle to complete the beta testing to get a complete listing.

All I can say is that we will want to follow their configuration recommendations to the "T" to start with.

Well that's nice news. Thanks for inquiring and letting us know. For those of us who use older display cards like my ATI 128 rage pro it would probably be a good idea to upgrade to a card that supports Quartz extreme but wait for Pinnacle recommendations before buying anything new.

So even after waiting to get OS-X because of the Cinewave drivers, I still have to wait for the adaptec drivers to be updates so we caan actually use our drives. That's so nice! I can't wait until OS-XI comes out and we're jsst getting onto OS-X.

Please read Andrew Baum's quote carefully:

"The Adaptec cards will not be qualified."

This means that the Adaptec 39160 will not be qualified. Ever. New drivers or not. This is also confirmed by the other uncompressed cards' performance with the 39160. Nobody wants to touch it anymore - lots of unexplained instability in MAC os X.

I've already asked for a quote to buy an ATTO UL3D.

One 39160 for sale...

Let me know the best price on your ATTO UL3D and where to get it... And if any body wants to buy my Adaptec 39160 at a great price, it is not a year old..... such is the bleeding edge..............
