RT upgrade from base model?
by JES on May 12, 2002 at 1:31:01 am

If I were to start out with a base model S-Video Igniter board for about $1,000.00, is it possible to upgrade to RT in the future? It is about $800.00 more and I'm not sure if it is worth it especially with no RT dissolves. Thanks.

Yes, you can start with the Igniter 001 base model with Y/C and RCA audio and upgrade to anything in the future... all the way up to Igniter Studio with RT, uncompressed, analog BOB, SDI and Film.

No RT dissolves is a bummer, but it will grant you RT 3-way CC, letterbox masking and a few HSL type functions.

Take note that the Igniter LT is not upgradable, but again, the Igniter 001 base is.

Would this require me to send my board back for an RT board or would I be able to purchase software to enable my board to perform the RT functions? Thanks.

As far as I understand it, it's just a software upgrade. I'd email Aurora and ask them specifics. Maybe they'll catch this thread and post a response.

We can do the upgrade from a non-RT, but we need the board back to do it. We need to replace a chip on the base Igniter board.

The upgrade price is $1000 plus shipping, so if you anticipate needing it, its a little less expensive to get it directly as an RT.
