Marco,
I have an Acard 133 RAID controller and 2 80gb but I keep geting droped frames. Are there any IDE drives and controller config that will allow for uncompressed? or should I just get scsi?
I have a dual 800 G4, 1.2gb ram acard 133 and 2 maxtor 80gb drives and the apple wd system drive.

Hi Bill,
I wish I could tell you more about using ATA drives with Igniter, but since I use SCSI 160, I'm pretty clueless to the ATA scene. There are several ATA users in this forum though. I would read through some of the older posts and contact them.
Any extra info you find, please share with everyone so others can benefit too! =)

Bill,
I really wanted to go the IDE route for Igniter Uncompressed. I read everything I could on the subject and talked to the folks at Aurora, who as of late March said they still couldn't guarantee IDE for Uncompressed.
I decided I couldn't take a chance, so I went with a 160GB Medea VideoRaidRT ($1,399 from B&H), along with an Atto UL2S card (which I'm exchanging for a UL3S, since the UL2S will no longer be supported). Works great, and I sleep well at night. Also, I think these drives are coming down in price.

I'm using a Medea RT array with ATTO UL2S card also. I'm having problems capturing and/or playing back uncompressed footage without switching the cards settings for each task (see my post to the thread below for details).
What are the settings you're using on the ATTO card that works for you?
I'd love to be able to use the Medea RT's that I already have without having to go to the RTR.

You need to set your view to "Buses and Devices". You should get three things you can double click on to look at their settings. All three have the Sync Rate. I've tried setting it at 80 (40) and 40 (20) and everything in between.
One of the devices (the scsi card itself) will give you an option for the PCI burst rate. I think the default setting is 168kb. But you can go higher or lower. For Media100 I found that 32kb worked best.
Like I said..if I set the burst rate high I can capture footage but not play it back. If I set it low I can play it back but not capture it.
I've ordered a UL3D card which should arrive tomorrow. I hope that fixes the problem.

The single stream structure of the Igniter is separate from the structure of a dual or single channel SCSI system. Howard did well in getting the UL3D. I have it and love it.
The main reason for getting a dual SCSI card is so you can stripe two drives together for a RAID system. Both drives act as one drive and each drive is independently connected to a SCSI port (or buss).
Even if you only use one SCSI port, you can always get an identical drive later on, stripe them and boom, instant RAID system.
And Howard, when you do get the card in and install it, please let everyone know if it's solved your capture/playback issues.

Marco said it as well as I could. I've always had single channel cards and they've always worked well. But i've never had to push uncompressed video through my system. I'd rather have more power and not need it than less. I know that I've benchmarked my Medea array at 80mb/s with the single channel card set to maximum throughput all around...but I'm pretty sure that's stressing the system to its limit.
I'm dying to be able to smoothly work with Igniter's uncompressed footage
(although 1.5:1 looks pretty darn good) and figure the UL3D will give me the best chance of avoiding any other problems.
I'll let you all know if this works for me. The card should be here today.

I just installed the UL3D card and was immediately able to capture and playback uncompressed with no problem. I am now officialy a happy person. : ) It's a relief that I won't have to upgrade my computer or my hard drives.

You don't need a dual-channel for raid. The UL3S can be used with two or more drives to create a array. Using two 10K Ultra-160 drives will be more than adequate to handle 20MB/s uncompressed.

Bill,
The Sonnet ATA66 and ATA100 RAID cards appear to work well. We are presently testing many cards, including SAN's for compatibility. I can not say how this testing will turn out at this time, but I have heard both the ATA133 does not work for some people, and does work for others. The one commonality we have seen is the people that have succesfully used the ATA133 were on dual 1GHz machines. Hope this helps.

Hi Support,
Glad to see you guys here! First I just want to say how very happy I am with my IgniterRT with Component option!
Second: I have a Sonnet ATA 133 card but get dropped frames on Uncompressed. I have a Dual 1GHz Mac (love it). I'm thinking that my drives are to blame. What are the models of drives used by those successfully using the 133 card? Thanks!

I am using a dual 800 and the Acard 133 RAID with 2 WD 120gb 8mb drives. After turning off the computer display and sending the output to video I can do uncompressed and RT without dropping frames.
