IgniterX Studio. FCP 4.0.2

When external video is turn on and picture is sent to the Igniter card, I get picture and audio from the Canvas window. However, I can not get audio from the "viewer" window unless external video is turned off. Then audio through the Igniter card works normally.

Is this normal?

Thanks.

Mike R.UPDATE: Audio from "Viewer" window

The problem appears to be affiliated with the audio tab in FCP. For example, if I load a clip with sound into the viewer, everything works great--I get both picture and sound through the Igniter card. If I switch to the audio tab in the viewer, video freezes on the last picture that was available (this is to be expected) but I get no audio at all.

This of course means that you can't work with audio only clips at all in the viewer when external video is on.

Is this a known problem with the Igniter card?

This is a known problem only to you. I've never heard of such an issue with FCP or the Igniter. Do you see waveforms in the viewer for an audio only clip? What version of the Igniter driver are you using and what version of FCP? This is truely a strange one. Can you also give us a little more info on how you have your audio routed from the Igniter to your external speakers?

Thanks for the reply.

I am using Final Cut Pro 4.0.2, Igniter drivers 6.0.7, OS X 10.2.6. Igniter X is selected as the audio output device in the A/V tab of System Settings in FCP. It is also selected as the output device for the whole system (System Preferences sound "pane"). This is so sound from other programs, like iTunes, also plays through the Igniter.

Physically, I have the Igniter analog breakout box connected to a small mixer via the balanced Mic outputs. This works very well for everything except for the audio tab of the viewer window when external video is on. Even iTunes keeps working when external video is on.

Yes, I do see audio waveforms in the viewer, and when it plays, FCP's internal audio meters move up and down as if audio was being produced, even when nothing is heard.

Verify that you have the latest (6.0.8) drivers, and that you have the "Sound" preference Pane set to "Built-in" for output.
