Better text graphics
by dog food on Dec 3, 2004 at 3:12:26 am

I am making a couple tv shows.. lots of on screen type/text over imported TGA files.... FCP text look horrible under 25pt ... I hear it is because of the codec..
I have a G5 - dual 2.5 -
Is there a card (Black Magic-?) that I can purchase that will solve this problem.

I need this problem fixed ASAP... just tell me what I need to buy.. : )

Would the NVDIA card help this situation- I am looking for an excuse to buy this thing : )

thanxs

First things first before dumping money into new cards. When you position the text you must do it on EVEN numbers for your Y Axis. You cannot place text on -3 or -24.33 for example. You must have it on an even number such as -4 or -24. When it is not on even numbers you will almost always get blurry or unreadable text.

Try that first before spending your money. Get the Nvidia card to use Motion ;-)

Okay then, what format are you cutting with (DV, MJPEG, etc.) and are you viewing, hi res or low res material?

Also - do you have Livetype? I have found that smaller text seems to look a little better when created here.

Finally - you migh try using Photoshop to create the text and import it into FCP.

How are you "looking" at this text? What you see on a computer monitor, is NOT what a REAL NTSC mointor will show?

Also.. set your Sequence to "Unlimited RT", and choose "Video Playback Quality - High".

See if that changes anything.

I am watching it on a TOSHIBA tv - hooked up via RCA through my DCR-11... it looks ok on the computer monitor but looks horrible on the TV (which is where the rest of the world will see it : (

There are way to many graphics and text that need to be placed in very specific areas to use live type...

how about an AJA box?

don't I need to find/use a different codec?

My entire project is on mini DV

thanks
