Taking a some text and making it revolve around some object. Like those old film company intro scenes. Is this possible in livetype?

No. You need Boris Graffiti or Boris RED

If I understand what you're trying to do, sure, you can do that easily in LiveType. Just follow these steps:

1. Make a circular path (by right-clicking on the text path and adding control points; you'll need only the two endpoints and one inner point).

2. Link Endpoints so that when text moves past the end of the path it wraps around to the other endpoint rather than continuing on tangentially in a straight line.

3. Add a New Effect and set its duration by stretching it in the Timeline or by using the Timing tab of the Inspector.

4. Add a Slide parameter to one of the keyframes, and give it a crazy big value like 1000%.

5. Press the Play button. You're done.

Hope this helps.

Isn't the "English" language funny. Tesla and I both took David's question and interpreted the deisred motion in totally different ways. Tesla is, of course, right, if you want to orbit the text around an object in the same x/y plane. I took the reference to old film company intros to mean a z plane orbit around an object. No doubt you could fake it by using a very eliptical path and slide along with scale, and two versions - on in front and one behind but it would be difficult to get them to match up.

If it is the orbital thing that David needs, then Boris Graffiti or RED will do it very simply (in fact htere's a tutorial for it on the Borisfx.com website in Tim's corner/tutorials).

Cheers

Good call, Tesla,

I think setting the parameter to 1000 is a little high, but you really hit the nail on the head.

A Slide value range of 0-1000% would effect 10 rotations. If you want to rotate twice, you could use 0-200%.

Sorry about the double posting last night. Pesky Back button.

Philip, you're probably right; I just must not watch enough old movies!
