Can't figure out why Canopus are advertising here... they're not exactly renowned for their Mac support, are they?

hello...

we don't currently do targeted advertising here at the cow, so you will see all of our ads in all of our forums - gotta pay the bills somehow... :-)

As Curtis points out: All our sponsors run throughout the entire site. We haven't yet got to the point where we isolate banners to a particular forum; if we did, we'd probably get more user dismay as manufacturers targeted their rival's users. The way it is, our sponsors just make this site available for your use and there is no real focus being made to try and convert people from one platform to another. It's just that Canopus is this site's prime sponsor.

But hey, I have heard rumors that there may be a Mac version of ProCoder -- but who knows, it may only be a rumor...

The best always,

Ron Lindeboom

Well, we can only hope that as more companies realise the potential of OSX then more stuff will become available. Nice to see that Star Office is to be Aquafied any day now, and of course loads of Unix apps which can be recompiled, could be the Mac is going to become the de facto Unix standard.

Maybe!

I have heard many of our best Unix friends say that it's a split decision. In some ways, OSX is the best thing to happen to Unix since Bell Labs but others say that there are some issues that make it Not Ready for Primetime. Some of the really high level film effects artists that we know who live on Unix (or is it: as eunichs???), say that Maya on OSX has some really irritating deficiencies that make it almost unusable to those that know the real thing. But hey, that may just be platform elitism raising its head in the truest tradition of platform dogma. Who knows?

Maybe, but that could just be because Maya for OSX has only recently been released. That said, some UNIX stuff seems to require only minimal tinkering with recompilation to work, whereas some will require substantial alteration. On the other hand, name me another UNIX machine that runs Final Cut Pro, Illustrator, Photoshop, Logic Audio, MS Office etc. etc.!!!

Having said that, OSX still needs work, so it will be interesting to see what happens with 10.2 10.5 (will it eventually be OS XI?) as to it's capabilities of moving into areas now dominated by other Unices(?!?)

Somehow, I remain optimistic.
