hello...

[Michael] "anyone have any experience,?"

most of us, actually... :-)

even in beta and with its select hiccups, most people on this board have been very happy with safari...it's faster and has a nice set of features that browsers like i.e. don't...

now with it's final release, it seems that a few odd things have popped back up, but it's safe to say that you should at least try it out to see what you think...

It seems faster than M$ IE for Macintosh. It plays nice with most of the websites I visit.

What I did notice that the little JAVAscript buttons you see when you post to the CreativeCOW.net that enable you to embed URL's and such are missing, but I must say I just checked M$ IE 5.2 for OS X and they don't show up there either. Those additional buttons show up in M$ Windows browsers.

I like the way it handles bookmarks. It has an iTunes feel for organizing and handling your bookmarks.

I also like browsing webpages in tabs much like the browser for M$ Windows http://www.irider.com.

The only con that has come to my attention is that you can't seem to send a webpage link from the browser directly. You have to open your email client manually and copy/paste the URL in a new message.

It is only 7MB download I think and is well worth a try.

HTH,
Bryce

PS I am OS agnostic and have used everything from DOS, Windows 3.11, SGI IRIX 4.0.5f, 5.3, 6.2, Windows 9x, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Linux and am absolutely in awe of Apple OS X 10.2.6 and all of its pieces and parts. I just setup up a NFS share on an old SGI O2 that has Liberty Paint on it. I did a Cmd+K to attached to it from my new OS X machine. I then typed nfs://192.168.1.8/usr2/liberty/AppleShareO2 and boom I was attached. I then did a Cmd+T from the new window of the attached share to place it in my Favorites and now that share is always available by double clicking the favorite icon for that share.

yup - they only show up in ie on windows because that's the only browser that has the api to support that type of functionality (unfortunatley)...but we have a very large slice of users who at least sometimes use win/ie (including myself, and heck - if i get to write functionality in for myself, then all the better, right?), so i figured i'd give at least some of the users that type of functionality...

Found this cool hint, may have been on macosxhints.com-

open the bookmarks page, make a new bookmark and paste this into the "address" field:

javascript:location.href='mailto:?SUBJECT='+escape(document.title)+'&BODY='+escape(location.href)

in the "name" field type email Link or whatever you wish to call it.

drag/copy this bookmark into your Bookmark Menu, the Bookmarks Bar or however many places are handy.

Go to a website; click on this bookmark as if a web URL. The script will open your default mail program, create a "new" message, paste the page's URL in the text field, place the text entry bar in the address field, and create a message Title based on the page's header.

Have had practically zero problems with Safari. There are a few rare pages here and there that still don't come up as they should, but no crashes, hiccups etc. The "quote" feature on COW worked for me the other day, today it doesn't (???).

i say give it a shot because it seems everyone's experience has been different with it, but I've gone back to my old browser. I've had nothing but problems with Safari, most notably with how it handles the site i visit the most--the Cow. The beta did work better than version 1.0 for me, both they have both been too buggy to really use.
just one experience...

I'd tried the beta and liked it so much that I switch to Safari full time right then. It's much faster than IE and has been very stable. I love the interface and bookmarks. You need to play around with Safari to find all the cool little things it does.

I've had a couple of problems. Actually they've all be hear at Creative Cow, except for one issue I had with the beta on Ebay. However, for me the problems have been pretty minor and haven't kept me from doing whatever I want. I know several people, like myself, who are very happy with Safari. I also know a few more people, like Aaron, that have had numerous problems with it. Give it a try an see what you think. It will import all your bookmarks from IE automatically. You can keep IE on your Mac and go back to it anytime you want. You can even run both at the same time.

Tony!
