How do I

How do I create a backdrop with color? For example. I have a still picture that is taller rather than wider and I would like to place my still picture on a "colored" background. Then import into FCPHD. I'm looking to achieve more of a matted image look.

Thanks!!

To answer your question, just change the canvas size of your image. It will expand the space around your image and use whatever color you have set as the BG color. You will have options to expand from the center, or from any of the 9 compass points around the image.

However, you don't really need to do this in Photoshop as you should be able to add a colored solid in you NLE. Reasons to do it this way are you can then change colors faster if you change your mind and you will have a smaller file size. You will also be able to use things such as drop shadow, etc., in your NLE if desired.
