Recently installed Raid server, for security video stoage, being recorded live in mpeg-4 format. I have 7 systems ranging from 16 cmaeras to 6 cameras per system. All systems are connected to server via fiber backbone through fiber switch.
server description:
OS on 2 80 gig raid array (I think raid 0) Running server 2003
microstar dual processor motherboard (exact model unknmown)
dual xeon pentium processors 1.8 (I believe)
2 gig pc 2700 ram (4X 512mb)Cosair
raid cards are 3ware sata raid
1.5 terreabyte raid aray (raid 5) 250gig sata drives
1.7 terrabyte raid aray (raid 5) 250gig sata drives
1 addition 3ware raid card unused for growth
on board graphics
Dual ethernet adapeter built in
1 100mb fiber ethernet
The software for the security application is Windows 2000/XP compatible
problem: After a short period of time I recieve error message unable to write log file that network drive disconnected, at other times the computer will totally crash, sometimes it will reboot sometimes it start loading bios, windows starts to load, then nothing but black screen. When 3ware bios loads raid arrays the 1.7 terrabyte aray is almost always degraded. on the same drive (not in use)
I have never messed with this level of computer. I have been told the problem is in the PC2700 ram, that it should be PC2100 (I guess I'll find this out next week as am replacing the ram.) I really don't reel this is the problem.

I don't think its heat. Have well ventilated the room it sits in. also have a 19" fan blowing directly on the server to make sure. I feel that it is a bad hard drive. as in tests today, I was able to write to the other raid array, with no failure. as soon as I started wriing to 1.7T array it shut down and came up showing same hard drive dropped on the same array.
