David,
Very nice rig you are building. I'm building a new one in 3 weeks myself. We are building similar systems so I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. I think those Lian Li cases are great. Are you raiding those 2 250 drives? Are they removable? Are you bummed you had to buy new Adobe software for your storm 2 because of new machine. Let me know how you like your rig?

LOL---I built my first one using the same parts accept I went for a Wavemaster case instead of the Lian----and had a slightly different drive setup and less ram---I think you will love it.

Thanks Paul and Nancy. I hope to use the 2 250's in an SATA configuration. I just hope it will work when I plug it in! Thanks again for the comments.
Sincere Regards,
David

I will tell you a funny story--My recently completed machine was the first one I ever built---I get everything ready to go--and it wont turn on---It turned out to be bad memory---But thats the only draw back you have when building your own---

Hey Nancy, How long did it take you to figure out it wouldn't run because of bad memory? What type of drive setup do you have? I appreciate your comments. It gives me hope that I can build one myself.

Well---I didn't have diagnostic tools and the "beeps" weren't helping--so I took it down to my local computer shop and they figured it out in five minutes---My HD set up is simple---I have an IDE drive 120 gig for my apps etc---Then I have a 200ghz SATA drive for my captures---Most of my capturing and editing is done on a set of external fire wire drives--granite digitals caddys--works great. No raid setup for me.

Hey Nancy,
My system is going to be the similar to your hard drive setup
mine is
Boot 160 gig Sata
Rem 200 gig Sata in a Kingston Mobile Sata Rack in 5 1/4 drive bay.
Rem 200 gig Sata in a Kingston Mobile Sata Rack in 5 1/4 drive bay.
I'm glad I'm not the only non raid person on here :).
How do you like your Plextor 708a I bought two? What burning software and media do you like with these Plextor drives. Feel free
to email me I'd love to hear your opinions on these items. How long ago did you build your system?

Paul---My drive system works real well for me---The Plextor rocks--just great--they make really good products. I backup normal stuff on CDRW----For my video work, I use Vegas with DVD Architect--works real well.

Hi Nancy,
Thanks for responding to me it is very much appreciated. I have gotten many Plextor drives through the years. So you have a Plextor 708a and a CD RW drive just for regular stuff? I was going to get a CD RW but, thought heck why not get another Plextor 708a instead since I'll probably make more dvd's. I will buy my Storm 2 Card after they get PPro going. How long did it take you to build your system Nancy?
Re: Building my first computer, what do you think? by nancy on Feb 1, 2004 at 6:11:03 pm
It took me about 3 hours to build the whole thing--it went very smoothly and there were only a couple of instances where I had to stop and read. I think that the process was a great way to learn about computers and the way they work.

good luck getting PPRO to work with DVSTORM2 its a major pain in the booty, you MUST FOLLOW the setup to the tee, what i would do is build your system install PPRO AS PER STROM DOCS then just use PPRO for 2-3days and make sure everything is going good or else you will find yourself having to re-install windows/PPRO STORM2/ENCORE ETC ETC a few times...
I have 3 STORMS with Raid-O but with all the newer systems im building now i just leave the drives alone because i had 1 person call me to ask why ALL his work is gone because of 1 bad drive,at this point its not worth taking the chance with such a small small speed boost....good luck
