Blown out image after burning DVD

I've had a similar problem - editing in FCP, burning to DVD in iDVD. Playing back on a Sony player everything looks washed out. I went through all the settings on the DVD player and found some that where affecting the way it looked. I don't remember what they were, but seems like it was auto-contrast or something... I never would have guessed that the player was the problem.
