I have recently switched from using FCP to encode my mpeg2 clips to using TMPGEnc. My first disc went great...

My second disc now has gone bad. I placed the finished disc in a pioneer player and the picture is just crap. It digitizes, breaks up and the audio will cut out. I try another player, a cheap shinsonic I purchased at Best Buy and it plays okay except for the areas where the picture is really bad on the pioneer I get what looks like strobing. Audio is fine though...

I configured TMPGEnc according to this web site: http://pwp.netcabo.pt/0165394101/TMPGEnc_Template.html

Anyone have any ideas what is wrong?

Brian,

Sounds like your bitrate was set too high. The experts here will be better able to confirm this than I, but they are quickly teaching me the finer points.

http://www.tmpgenc.net/

It's the most recommended software based MPEG-2 encoder. Extremely cheap but extremely slow. I use a second computer to encode.

In further looking at the footage, the player that will do a decently half way job of play back, the strobbing tends to be most noticeable in the heavy motion areas (like dancing, walking) or slowmo areas or crossfades.

Is this an encoding problem or a media problem. I encoded it at
max 8000
average 6000
minimum 2000

Thanks

Try a max of 7500. Also- try 3 passes. Enable padding. Also- make sure you are using NTSC settings- not the PAL ones as shown on that site.

Noah,

I've cranked down the video to

max 6800
4800
min 2000

I am still getting jittery video! Can I take it down any further and maintain quality. The digital breakdown of the image isn't happening, but the strobe effect still is.

Thanks

Brian Peterson
