Most all of us here on the Creative Cow team have long been big fans of Medea and what they are doing for media pros. So it's with great enthusiasm that we launch our newest forum for users and those interested in learneing more about Medea products. It's great to have Bob Russo here as he's one of the most savvy users there is when it comes to Medea and we know that with him here, this forum is in good hands.
Welcome all to the newest little bovine in the barn.
partitioning the drive by Warren Wright on May 30, 2001 at 4:57:58 am
I have A Medea VideoRaid 4/120 scsi on a MC1000 ver 7.2 MacOS 8.1 This drive has only one partition. Is this a good idea or not? Thoughts anyone? I also very successfully digitise at AVR 77 to this drive (although officially not supported) can anyone see a disaster looming for me? p.s. the drive runs like a dream

I think you should partition the drive into a number of smaller partitions. The reason being there is a limit to the number of files that the Mac OS supports on a drive and even less in a folder. Since the Avid puts all the Media in one OMFI folder, you can easily reach this limit. With HFS, which ADU supports, I believe the limit for a single folder is somewhere around 1,300 files.
I suggest using the Avid Drive Utility to format and partition your drive, if you aren't already.
When something on a drive becomes corrupt, there is also a tendency for a single partition to go bad first. I've seen people work for weeks with one partition that they just couldn't mount. If you only loose one partition, it is easy with a program like DiskWarrior to bring it back. Even if you can't get the partition back, you will only loose the media on it. You can create a group with all your partitions, and digitize to them all so you won't have a problem with capturing long clips, or needing to stop and switch to another partition.
Is your drive an RT or just Videoscsi? Good to see you are able to have it work. You may see some underruns with realtime effects.
