Hey all,

I am seeking out some good advice regarding the use of fonts for broadcast motion graphics. I'm looking for something that delves a bit deeper than the usual "sans-serif fonts in a light color on a dark background work best for video..." I'm actually more curious to know if there are more advanced issues I need to consider such as the font formatting, the use of outlines, shadows, and other effects, and so on. I work for a university video production department and cable channel, and alot of the work we do tends to be fairly text intensive. If anyone has some good advice about specific resources, or even just sources of good fonts for broadcast use, I'd appreciate it.

Also, if anyone has a good tutorial on how to create a long line of repeating (looping) text in Combustion 3, or a "typed in" effect, I'd appreciate that, too.

Thanks!

Dave-
For things to do with type, you might start with your Photoshop Manual, and pick
up magazines like EFX Graphics and Design.

For broadcast, pick up Creating Motion Graphics with AE by Trish and
Chris Meyer. The AE 6.0 Total Training Tapes by Brian Maffitt are fantastic.

If you want to actually create fonts, you might hit the tutorial Chank website.
Chank also sells fonts and gives some away as well.

The only thing that I do to prep type for broadcast is apply a tiny bit of fast blur
to prevent edge flicker.

Thanks so much. I have considered doing a bit of font design on my own.

Thanks...
