 | How do I use a Lowel "cookie?"
by ray seva on Jul 23, 2002 at 8:03:24 am |
On a whim, I bought one from B&H (it was cheap; figured "what the hell!") I inserted it in the barndoor of my Lowel 500watt Omni, waiting to see the cool background-light pattern on a wall in a darkened room.
But nothing; the light-beams simply blazed thru. I then put on a scrim underneath the "cookie." Again, no pattern on the wall--just a dimmed version of the light beam.
Any suggestions?

These work much better on Spot than Flood. But keep in mind it is not a true substitute for a leko.

You'll have much better luck with a larger cookie on a "c" stand where you can vary the distance between the light source and the wall. 'Harder' light will produce more prominent results on the wall of course. Best of luck-

You've discovered one of the most useless lighting accessories ever made and sold by Lowel (which is a company I like, see other posts). As recommended in another post, you will have much better luck with a homemade cookie about 2'x 3' that you fly in front of a fresnel on a C Stand.

If you don't want to make a hard cookie - try a bit of lace fabric hung on a c-stand. Go to wal-mart and buy a yard or two. Since it is fabric you have to keep it a couple feet away from the lamp on a 1k fixture.
