Hi all,

As a Premiere user I've always wanted to be AVID-savvy, so I recently downloaded AVID Free DV with a view to getting up to speed on a cut-down version, and then buying AVID Xpress DV or even PRO.

I'm having big problems with Free DV - the 'play' button doesn't work for one, and windows don't stay where I put them - they snap back to their just-of-screen position.

Has anyone else seen this?

I DO want to like it, it's just not working - I have a 3.07GHz 1GB PC running XP, so grunt's not a problem.

Thanks for any info, as AVID apparently don't support Free DV.

While it's a pretty bogus little app, it sure is hard to gripe about it.
It's buggy period. I hate to quote the ole 'ya get what ya pay for' but it certainly applies here.

I was kinda hoping it would be something that would convince me into switching to Avid from Premiere 6.5.

At least I know the bugs in Premiere... better the devil you know, eh?!

Doug,
You might want to try this XP fix.

Free DV was unusable for me for the longest time but one day as I was perusing the Avid boards I came across mention of this fix and now FreeDV seems to be wokring good for me (knock on virtual wood)...
It's worth a try anyway...

naaaa... I mean with XDV itself it's tough to sway folks from Premiere much less this thing.
I'm still of the opinion it is doing much more harm than good but I'm just an editor who was meant to be kept in a dark room pushin buttons for folks on a tight schedule so what do I know?
