Questions to ask during demo?
by dcribber on Aug 13, 2003 at 7:24:54 pm

Going to check out a MC Adrenaline tomorrow. Trying to decide between the Avid and a FCP/Cinewave system. What should I be looking for for comparison sake? Where are the weaknesses ? What are the strengths?

Thanks
Dave

IF the demo guy or girl is good the Adrenaline will blow you away. Ask him to compare it to a Cinnewave system he or she will for sure have heard that question before. Make sure they show you the RT capabliteies/ Marquee title / DVE/ timewarpper.

...then go get a good CineWave demo to make sure what they said about it was (actually) true.

Ask em straight up if the aliasing in the DVE will go away when it's 10 bit in to out. Then ask em again if the next release WILL be 10 bit in to out. I've been told it is but then I went in thinking it already was. I've had some tell me that it's not a card issue, not an 8 bit issue but a code it's built around. Makes me wonder if it will live on or finally go away.
Have him throw a PIP effect on a second layer and rotate it to see what I'm talking about. You'll see jagged edges on the box. Have him advance it to high quality too and you'll still see it. I got there way early and did this away from the group. You should too. Much better one on one time.

... and more likely that he may indulge.
