I know what yellow looks like , and it aint like grey..lol.
Well almost every time I try to create a pretty material
the object does not change to that color. Why?
I click a material in the bin , adjust it abit and drop it on the object in the
preview window, (which I do see the RED outline around the preview window)
and then prview it and...nothing..still the same grey object.

any help?
Thnx
Mark

Hi Mark,

Just to double check your procedure --

I assume you're loading a material swatch from the materials bin (the large collection of colored texture spheres), into the material editor box (the single box below the "material commands" popup menu). You're doing this by dragging/dropping or double clicking the texture sphere.

At that point, I'd bet you're modifying the material, and dragging the sphere from the single box, on top of your *selected* object, right? If not, try selecting the object of choice, then dragging the texture on top of it.

There are lots of alternatives... including splitting the textures of your objects by using the material setup window and dragging several textures into the docks, then applying them... or using object styles.... but let's get the basics working for you.

Does this help?

Jon

Hey thnx Jon..
Well yea I am doing just what youre
saying. I grab a colored sphere into the
editor, make adjustments to it, and then
drop the sphere from the editor to the
selected object in the preview window.

I have noticed that sometimes it works and
sometimes it dont. Kinda a pain. I know the object is selected
because I see the red box around it.

So what am I doing wrong? And why wont the
object accept my new material?

thnx again Jon for your help,
Mark
