[Mike Rehmus] "Time code on the 170, not on the 2100 IIRC."
In an effort to be brief, Mike may have left out something important.
There is ALWAYS timecode recorded on DV, its part of the format.
I think what Mike meant is that you can ADJUST or PRE-SET the timecode on the PD170... but ONLY in the DVCAM mode (and a "60 min." tape will record for only 40 min. in DVCAM mode.)
Since the VX2100 does not offer DVCAM speed, you can't pre-set the TC, it just goes back to 00:00:00 at the beginning of a new tape (or after an "unrecorded" blank section on any tape.)
If you want to read ALL ABOUT this...
Go to SEARCH POSTS here and search PD150 and VX2000. The differences between these two cameras are the identical differences between the PD170 and VX2100.
As Mike mentioned, this has been asked and answered many, Many, MANY times ;-)
