Does anyone know what the PD170 has that the VX2100 does not have. Is the PD170 worth the extra money.

Lots of posts on this subject on a lot of forums.

Same basic camera but if sound is an issue for you, the XLR's and the ability to independently control levels is a major advantage.

DVCam capability may be of importance if you work with other companies in the industry.

Time code on the 170, not on the 2100 IIRC.

In an effort to be brief, Mike may have left out something important.
There is ALWAYS timecode recorded on DV, its part of the format.
I think what Mike meant is that you can ADJUST or PRE-SET the timecode on the PD170... but ONLY in the DVCAM mode (and a "60 min." tape will record for only 40 min. in DVCAM mode.)
Since the VX2100 does not offer DVCAM speed, you can't pre-set the TC, it just goes back to 00:00:00 at the beginning of a new tape (or after an "unrecorded" blank section on any tape.)
