The full montage

Can I assemble m2v files end to end into a single file? If not, how can I convert the m2vs into MPG files that I can edit?

m2v files are Mpeg. Probably your best bet is to convert them into .avi files which Pro can edit. Tmpeg is free and can do this

Thanks, Mike, but that would defeat my purpose. I started out with AVIs. Converting back would cost me quality.

It was my understanding that PREMIERE PRO could edit MPG extention (as opposed to mp2 extention) files. You mean it won'y even do that?

Mpeg is Mpeg, regrdless of the many file extension and Premiere cannot edit Mpeg other than some simple slicing.
Media Studio Pro can.

But all I need to do is assemble files end to end and consolide two or more into a single file. Could anything be simpler or more essential?

For whatever reasson, end users will always need to do compression of long files in portions. Either PREMIERE "PRO" or ENCORE *HAS* to offer this utility. Not to do so is indefensible, simply indefesible.

For simple assembly like you need, Tmpeg can join mpeg files....so can VirtualDub...both free.
