We've released the new version of ShowIEL (3.0). It's free, loads the latest pIllusion library files, and has some cool new features that make it a pretty useful little creative tool.
(I need somebody to let me know if all 3 versions work download, unzip, and work correctly. 99% sure that they do, but better to hear from somebody else. The 3 versions are 1) with installer and sampler library 2) with installer, no library 3) no installer, no library )
Oh, the Mac version of ShowIEL will be available in a few days.

The original version of ShowIEL was used to skim through a library and check out the emitters.
This one does the same, but it's more like a souped up version of the preview window. You can test out your emitters, but you can also turn on Don't Erase and paint with emitters, then pause it and grab a screen capture. While you can do the same things in pI3, painting abstract stuff in ShowIEL seems to go a little faster, probably because there's no interface to deal with, just emitters and a canvas.

You can also use it to generate "full size" thumbnails for each emitter if you want.
To those who already have pI3, ShowIEL may not be so fantastic (although I think it's pretty cool). To those who do not have pI3, or have never heard of particleIllusion or seen what it can do, it should be a nice introduction.

Alan,
I downloaded the showiel3.0 file on the day you first posted it. Today was the first opportunity I had to play/try it out. I unzipped all the files to a temp folder and ran the setup and I also tried to run the setup right from winzip as you mentioned. The problem I am having is that no matter if I click on the desktop icon on go the the 'start' menu item, all I get is just a flash of my desktop but no program. I even tried to double click on a library file but no go there either. I am using Win98se and pIllusion 3.01 works just fine. I may have gotten a bad download so I am downloading again now and will try it again. The file I downloaded both times is 2.51 mb. You said to let you know if there was a problem with the files. Also, you said there were three different flavors of the download...I only saw one. Thanks.

Alan,
That is correct. I do not get any dialog box...just a flash of my desktop and that is all. During the 'flash' I do notice a small black window in the upper left of my desktop but as I mentioned, it is just a flash.
I did find those other files at the bottom of the page. Sorry I bothered you with that one.
Also, I do not have any OpenGL hardware acceleration capabilities if that makes a difference.

I was going to ignore you, but I feel the need to say something.
First off - I don't work for Wondertouch - I am a professional Animator who came to know Alan from using his software, and finding a comunity here where people share information that benefits other people in their animation challenges. I volunteered to moderate because I like sharing my knowledge when possible, and learning from those more knowledgeable then me.
You might not realize that that is what we are here for, especially based on your history of other flaming posts here at the various forums in the cow, but the idea is to expand our minds, not our egos.
Every time Wondertouch releases something for the Mac, it means that they are taking a step in the right direction for OSX. It means that they are making progress in the final version of pIllusion 3.
If you want to use it now - and why else would you post these comments here - then get a PC. Otherwise wait. Wondertouch is a small company and is working as fast as possible. What possible reason would they have for taking so long on the mac version? So that you suffer? they lose money from not having it available for mac users. Obviously it takes time. And no amount of flaming is going to change it, so why bother, unless it makes you enjoy being rude and trying to hurt people.
You are obviously welcome here, but please remember what this forum is for. If you want a place to flame, maybe they will create a gripes forum for you here, but this is definately not the place.
