Ted Goredust particles floating in air?

Hey all...

If you are familiar with MK12's embryo piece, you will know what I am talking about...

http://media2.mk12.com/v5_qt_html/2002/embryo.html

When you see the mouse close up, you can see dust flying around, like it's being caught by the light. Has anyone ever created something like this?

I'm thinking particular is worth a try, but thought I'd ask here to see if anyone had an insight

Thanks

Ted

My guess is that it was done completely in a 3d package. Maybe particles in Maya or some other program?

Trapcode particular can make this look really well, and it works with the AE 3D camera. I can e-mail a preset that can be tried out with the demo if you don't own it.

I was messing with foam and user defined images (tiny psd's painted in Photoshop) as "bubbles", images like the particles in Dan Ebbert's 3D Particle Generator (hey that would work too). They dust around quite nicely, although Particular is probably easier.

Question, do you get particle shape variation in Particular, are they all basically the same?

You can set the particle to use a precomp as its source. So you then make differnt parts of the precomp different images. For example, the first ten seconds it's a square, the next 10 it's a circle, etc. Then, in particular, in the custom particle field, under time sampling, choose "random" now, whenever a particle is born it will randomly be a square or circle.
