3d software
by John Marshall on Nov 12, 2004 at 9:07:59 pm

I need some advice on selecting 3d software. I have been a user of after effects for 8 years. Our needs will include airplanes, trucks etc in 3d space.

So far I have been told to look at 3dmax and lightwave.

Cheers.

John in Idaho

You're new here, right?

Look down the posts to Nov 10, Nov 8, and search the COW. Include the archives. Please.

Dear John (in Idaho),

This does get asked quite often and you'll find more answers
than you know what to do with if you do a quick search here
on the cow (ae in general).

If you aren't willing to research this throughly yourself, then
you will chase your tail forever.

Consider hiring a 3d artist;
it will be WAY cheaper for you in the long run ( $ and time ).

Cheers.

I saw a demo of 3ds Max on Wednesday evening at the Dallas Motion Graphics group meeting. He sure made it look easy. A bit tedious perhaps, but easy enough to consider buying it.

It all depends on your needs. . . Lightwave I have found to have an easier learning curve, but not entail more of the advanced features. What exactly are you looking to do?

Yes I am new to this forum. Some one has to ask the question this week. Did some research on some of the previous posts and I am going with 3DS max. I realize it will be a long commitment and that is why I have put this off for years. It’s becoming a necessity now.

thanks for the advice.

cheers.
