80s music video style

Hi again all...
I'm back with another somewhat ambiguous question...
I have a client who would like their wedding video 'recap' re-edited to 80s music, using effects reminiscient of 80s music videos. This is what I was told, no more no less. I have a few ideas for things to do, but I was wondering what you guys thought - does anyone have any ideas of "80s style effects?" Immediately springing to mind are lots of neon colors, the Hungry Like the Wolf Video, and the other one (can't remembr the title offhand) where halk of the video is 'hand drawn' and in the mirror is live action. Oh, I also think of the Rockwell video, but I don't think we need a bleeding shower head!
I should mention this, too. I am not sqeemish when it come to AE, its just that most of my experience with it has to do with motion graphics, and not video effects and processing. Lately I have been taking on smaller projects to learn more about other aspects of the program. These are mainly for fun, and this is understood by the client, so I offer a low price and warn them that it may take a while. Therefore, speed and render time are not really an issue (yet) as I am still learning and experimenting, and the expectation for delivery is several months. Also, since this is a "side thing," I am doing this work on a separate computer, so it won't tie up my 'bread and butter' machine.
That said, I'd love to hear ideas, or read tutorials that you can point me to. Thanks,

How about these fx:
- Posterize (a real golden oldie)
- Scribbe (Hand draw fill fx that fills masks)
- Echo (Video feedback)
- Lens Flares (Don't use fancy flares from Knolls Light Factory)
- Key out areas of your footage and replace colours (Color Key / Luma Key)
- Wipes with neon pink / green borders (Stroked masks)
- Color correct the pictures, try "over saturated" look, let the colors "bleed" slightly
The point is to make things like slightly "cheesy" isn't it?
It shouldn't look too good.....

Ya the hand drawn video was "Take on Me". What a great video. Ya, Dylan's thoughts are right on. Some big hair wigs and random tight leather pants shots wouldn't hurt either. Can't really do those in AE though. Maybe some of Boris Cartooner elements mixed in over the top of the main footage to have some animated lines following around the peoples shapes. Man the possibilities are endless. That's every 20 somethings dream project right there (or at least mine). You gotta post that when your done and let us check it out. Have some fun with that.

(It's still the 80's here in Alaska)
production in Alaska is just insane!
G5 2.0 DP, 2.5 GB RAM. Final Cut Pro 4.1, After Effects 6.0, blah blah blah.

Scott,
Lol. Seems like most of us are 20 somethings on here. Man so many songs to choose from. Maybe mixing them up. Let's see twisted sister, quiet riot, air supply, george michael, billy idol, ....man the list goes on.. I'm casting my vote for at least the chorus of Bad English's "Melt with you". Be a great wedding song.

Some freeze-frame type stuff inside boxes, mirror image / split screen stuff and my personal favorite... get the groom back, have him hold a piece of cardboard cut to look like a sword painted grey/silver, and have him act (incredibly badly) that it is heavy (ala Def Leopard).

OK, so here's a question -- can anyone suggest a place i might be able to view some of these original 80s videos? Perhaps a website, TV network, or program I could watch or record for inspiration? Thanks,

If you are an AOL subscriber, you can go to videos and they will have a BUNCH of 80's videos and they pretty much stream. VH1's site under "I Love the 80's" is also a great reference point. Good luck to you.
