Having once worked in Maya I liked that its render viewer could show the alpha channel of a render by clicking on the alpha channel button at the top of the viewer.

Does R9 have a similar feature? Or do I need to save as a TIF and view the alpha channel in Photoshop?

Choose the Channel menu in the Picture Viewer, not sure if it works during a render though.
