 | C4D to 3DS conversion
by tricky on Sep 21, 2004 at 1:10:15 pm |
I have a load of C4D files that I need to convert to 3DS (or some other 3DSmax compatible format), but I don't own Cinema 4D. Does anyone know of any tools to do this? The demo version does not allow 'export' and Quick3D doesn't support version 6.x version of C4D files (which apparently these are).
Any help would be much appreciated.

There are format conversion apps out there, but they cost more than C4D. I would either buy cinema or make friends with someone who already owns it and can covert the files for you.
I don't have Body Paint loaded separately on my system so I can't check but the standalone version of BP might be able to do this for you as well.

Thanks anyway. Could you point me to one of these apps - I'd be interested to know just how much they are.

Hi,
no other app then CINEMA or BodyPaint will be able to read c4d files from R6 on upwards. The fileformat is parametric. You will have to find a CINEMA user who can do this for you.

If Bjorn says it can't be done, then it can't.. :-)
But the app I was thinkiung of goes for around three to four thousand dollars. I thought it could convert max files to cinema and the other way around, but maybe not. In any case, Cinema owuld be far cheaper.

You are right in that there are applications for conversion, but in the case of max those programs need 3dsmax to be installed to allow conversion. A similar arrangement is possible with CINEMA but won't help those without CINEMA.
