Only 3 ways you can get the model/scene from C4D to max, really. OBJ, 3DS, or VRML format (ok, DXF but forget that one.)
One of them MAY send the animation along with it, but if you have no luck - you probably aren't overlooking something. Transferring animation data between packages is generally not something that many packages do, and is usually handed by something like Polytrans.
BTW - even if you get the animation transferred to max, you're going to have to deal with some coordinate reference differences. Biggest one: In C4D, "Y" is "up/down". In max, "Z" is "up/down" - and neither of them have an app preference to reverse this behavior.
