 | I'm getting my ass kicked over here.......HELP.......
by Michael Munkittrick on Oct 30, 2001 at 4:35:25 pm |
Guys. I bought Cinema4D 7 with 3D Paint over two months ago and have yet to get t the oint in the manual that tells me what I'm doing. I am trying to get a handle on cameras and tension and can't get my text to extrude correctly. I have tried even rudementary fonts within the Mac and it causes some really bad lines. What do I need to do to simply extrude my Arial Bold face text and move a camera through the letters?
Thanks,
Michael
PS- Sorry for the stress. I have been buying and buying and buying and now I need to know how this stuff works. I've got a client who has less time than I do and I can't get Lightwave on my PC to initialize (I screwed up my ports with my dongle. Can you say re-install?).

can't get my text to extrude correctly. I have tried even rudementary fonts within the Mac and it causes some really bad lines.
In the main menu, go to "File>Import/Export Settings>Illustrator". A dialog will open. Make sure "Connect Splines" is checked. Then when you import illustrator files, it will know what goes to what and what is a hole and what isn't.
For Text that you've already imported and tried to extrude, first of they aren't already, make sure that all the individual splines are part of one group (either by hitting G and dragging the cursor to form a box around them, or by creating a null object and dragging the pieces in one by one so that they are all children of the null) select the text opject (spline). Then select the group and from the main menu choose "Function>Connect". A new spline object will be created.
Hide the original group.
Create an extrude nurbs object, the make the new spline object a chind of that. If it still doesn't look as it's supposed to, it might be extruding in the wrong direction. To remedy this, double click on the extrude nurbs icon, and you'll find settings for entering values as to how much in what direction you want it to extrude.
If the text spline is oriented on the X/Y plane, you'll want to set the exrude values of X and Y to zero, and then enter a value in the 'Z' direction that looks pleasing. You can always change this amount by double clicking on the icon to gain access to the settings. You can also determine whether or not the text will have caps or bevels/rounding and how such roundings will be shaped/sized (detail tab).
Tell me more about what you are trying to do with the camera.

If, in the main menu, you go to "Object>Spline Primitive>Text", a dialog will open allowing you to create your text object right from within Cinema. There is also the ability to create spline based artwork from within cinema which uses tools that are familiar to you from adobe products.

When using bevels and rounding you'll usually want to have "constrain Contours" checked (in the details tab), otherwisw the letters can grow unnaturally.

You are OK with me.....Just kiddin'.
During my import, apparently CD$ wasn't "seeing" my text as closed paths. I will try to use the CD$ text-splines tool to simplify things and to save hair.
Thanks, Michael
