Okay, I like Motion so far - it's a good, low-priced solution to motion graphics for people who have yet to get into the wonderful world of compositing. However, I have two problems. First, anyone else out there using an Aurora product with Motion? I can't seem to get it to recognize my IgniterX Pro. Maybe this is a "feature" of Motion.

Second... does anyone else HATE the fact that you have two choices for snapping... but no ability to turn it off? I'm getting sick of being forced to place images a certain way. Maybe it's just me.

The N key will turn off snapping, just like FCP.

I'm using Motion with an IgniterX - no problems so far. It does slow down playback, so I don't use it until I need color checks on an NTSC monitor.

Mark - we'll all agree that I'm stupid and move on.

Shank - what are your settings? I have no idea where to begin in getting the monitor working for me... also, for some reason, whenever I try to export, every time I try to export Aurora MJPEG A I'm forced to use Apple's MJPEG codec. Although I believe they work hand-in-hand, the luma is somehow offset by the slightest degree. I dunno, I'm having all kinds of problems!

[Nightowl] "every time I try to export Aurora MJPEG A I'm forced to use Apple's MJPEG codec. "

I always thought they were the same codec - Aurora simply used the Apple QT MJPEG-A codec (after all, that's the only MJPEG-A codec that exists for QT). but perhaps aurora tweaked it.

Are you transcoding from DV without setup and video with setup? What do the scopes read?

Cheers

I was using an Aurora PipePro for the past months and no issues using it as an external monitor source.

I wonder what the problem is then - Motion doesn't seem to recognize the IgniterX on any setting I use - any ideas what could possibly be blocking this? I did get it to flash up for less than half a second (the welcome screen, of all things), but only when Final Cut Pro was open as well, which is extremely bizarre. Any ideas, anyone?

Try going to the Ignition control panel and clicking the "Enable Video In Legacy Applications" checkbox in the "Advanced" section, then creating an Igniter preset in Motion. I don't have much luck playing out some sequences that are not set up specifically for the Igniter to an external monitor, but most of what I do in Motion gets played out on the Igniter card, so it made sense to me to make a preset.

hth,
