by Thew on Mar 1, 2005 at 3:36:23 pm

For somereason, my box is out putting the first frame to my monitor and then playing the video in the top left hand corner,
almost looking like Picture in Picture only with one frame in the back ground..
Any Ideas, pleaseeee!!!!!!

Sequence is set to DV NTSC 48Khz
Capture S-video 8bit NTSC US to DV 48Khz

Playback, Is Componet YPbPr SMPTE N10bit 422

I played with the video Playback, and it seem to fix it , think I had it set to J version I take it Japanese, that and my boss was on the network looking at my show through and non AJA FCP configuration.. he runs straight Firewire to a deck..

However now my picture looks very soft at the currnet playback settings
Componet YPbPr SMPTE N10bit 422

Im going out Svideo..
Any ideas on what my output settings should be do get the best picture..
Im shooting on a DVCPRO 50 cam ,but on in normal DVCPRO..
Then Im sticking the tape in a DVCPRO deck and digitizing it, etc...

Any thoughts

Your video playback setting should be Component YPbPr Betacam 525 - 8-bit (720X486) to view it properly on an NTSC monitor. Never use the Japanese or SMPTE N10 settings. Your colors will not be correct. If your sequence is set to DV why not just go out to tape via firewire? I hope this helps.

You can also use the Component YPbPr Betacam 525 - 10-bit (720X486), but you do not really need to since DVCPRO50 is only 8bit video. I usually set my output to this, so I can easily playback sequences in DV, DV50, uncompressed 8bit and 10bit w/o changing settings.

Its seems to look very soft, and very pastey when I use those settings..
It certainly dosent look like DVCPRO, and it looks great on the computer screen..

Hmmm... is your video set to playback at high quality? How exactly are you monitoring the output of the Io?

Bump it up to High Quality, and Using 8bit, foes seem to think 10 bit it better their wrong..
Adjusted the quality and the color, and now I love AJA, Im outputting better quality then everyone else in the shop..
Thanks

Well if all you are capturing is DV or DVCPRO50, then yes, 10bit will not yield many advantages since those are both 8bit formats. However, capturing 10bit uncompressed will look better than any 8bit format.
